Just a quick one today, since on this fine Spring day we celebrate Fathers Day.
It goes without saying I love the two Dad's in my life, my own father and my husband, Julian. So today is the perfect time for me to rant about the thing that annoys me most about how fathers, in general, are portrayed.
If you have been reading along with me, you know I love to have a bit of fun, I also love sitcoms, except for ones about family. It annoys me so much that fathers are usually portrayed as dumb and the long suffering wife/mother is always there to fix everything. The kids are always rolling their eyes at whatever Dad has done in that episode.
Not only do I have these two awesome Dad's in my life, I have three sons, what does this stereotype teach them about being men?
Where in these "sitcoms" does it show respect to the father, who goes out and supports his family, tries to spend time with his kids, loves his wife?
Alright, rant over, and a special message to all the Dads out there from my favorite sitcom ever
Thank you Perry much!
Thanks for reading,
Mel xo
Good point Mel, I totally agree about how Dads are usually potrayed. I will be watching House Husbands tonight with interest, hoping it will be different.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree! Fathers aren't portrayed very well on sitcoms. Our Fathers Day is in June.
ReplyDeleteHi, Mel. Great post about dads. We have been watching reruns of The Cosby Show and have really enjoyed the family dynamics portrayed in it. Not at all like the sitcoms of today. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and leaving me a sweet comment about getting melted plastic off of my cooktop. I don't think I could be trusted with real Tupperware either. Mine was an old rubbermaid set, but it was still perfectly functional. So sad to ruin quality stuff. Have a great rest of the weekend!
