Glitter Gem Choker - Or it was time for a disaster!

Well I guess I was due a disaster! I'm not overly happy with these.

I saw these gorgeous fake ovals set in metal at a local store and they kind of looked like bottle caps and I thought I could recreate them with a little glitter, sorry I couldn't take a picture in the store.

I followed all my usual steps below

But they look kind of horrid, Madeleine likes them but the idea of her in a choker isn't very appealing. Not even photo editing could hide the ugly.

DIY Delight or disaster? Disaster, it's really ugly, I guess opals are not re creatable at home!

Thanks for reading,

Mel xo

  1. It's hard to tell the color on the computer...they look kind of coppery to me, which I like. Ah....glitter...you know how I feel about it! LOL! If Madeleine likes it though, I"m not sure you can consider it a disaster girl!

  6. I don't think it's a disaster. Maybe you think it's ugly only because you had a certain look in mind. Forget the opal lookalike and just look at it as glittery sparkly jewelry and you'll love it. I do! :)

  7. Don't hate me, but I really love it. I think they look copper-y too and reminds me of antique jewellery. I think Madeleine knows her stuff :)

Sorry they didn't turn out as you had hoped. They don't look bad in the pictures.

  10. I don't really see anything wrong with it Mel. I love copper... so the colour totally works for me.

  11. Looks like you had a consensus here and the only one who doesn't like it much is you. :) I agree with the others that it looks fine, and I agree w/Danni that if your daughter likes it, it's a total hit. :)

  12. I love opals. They're one of my favorite stones. While I agree that these don't look like opals, the color is fun. Maybe disassemble it and turn it into a pendent necklace or bracelet for M.

  13. Oh, Mel... I love your honesty. I will say, I'm not a huge choker fan (just as a rule), but I think that this would make a really lovely bracelet. And hey, glitter makes everything a little bit better, doesn't it? :)

  14. It sounds like you had a certain look in mind, but it looks like coppery, glittery pennies to me. I think Madeleine knows what she's talking about. Maybe there is some other way she can enjoy them safely? Like baubles for a Christmas setting or on a Christmas tree? Come on, Mel, don't deny her ;)
