Howdy,
So I am back after what feels like ages! I really enjoyed spending the holidays with the kids and just taking a break from bloglandia. I love blogging, I do however find that it takes so much time that taking a break from my online life frees up loads of time to ensure I have an offline life as well. You know the whole Blog/Life balance. On the other hand I have BIG things to show you in the coming weeks.
What else? I got my haircut, around 6-7 inches it's the shortest I've ever worn it. I realized that I constantly had it up in a bun or ponytail and it was starting to make me look really old. No photo because 1 I hate photos and 2 we've been working our butts off right across Easter and so while I sit here with perfect hair I also happen to be wearing my dressing gown over my painting clothes....Prada has nothing on my style!
I did manage t do a bit of thrift store shopping or as we call it here, op shopping, op short for opportunity. Sometimes I wonder how people find those really awesome find, I usually don't find much when I am out thrifting, but last month my thrifting fairy godmother must have heard my cries because this month was the month I hit the jackpot!
I have been looking for lighting for the entry, I was after something in a wood or cane style and I happened across this for $10.
While on lighting, I was after something iron or metal for another room and this was a bargain at $2.
These chairs, Oh My Goodness, I had been eyeing them off for weeks but at $20 each I thought they were a bit much. Imagine my delight when I walked in and found they were having a chair sale, $2 EACh! Woot Hells yeah I grabbed both of them and knowing Julian would hav a fit seeing them in the garage I bribed Elizabeth to hide them in her wardrobe until I was ready to use them their makeover is happening this week (fingers crossed)
Not sure on the upholstery tacks and to be honest I don't know exactly why I fell for them but I did...hard! I absolutely love these chairs, but not the infected snot colour, they need a makeover. Also just to gush a little more, they are so comfy I just want to sit on them all the time I need a pouf then I am set. Actually I think I have one in the garage, hmmm.
but the item that had me believing that thrifting fairy godmothers do exist, were these can platters, I came up with an idea, the night before and started checking ebay, the cheapest I found were 4 for $20. So when I found these the following morning at 50 cents each I actually threw my fist up and yelled "yeah!" I can tell you the elderly lady running the store looked at me like I was insane. In fact she gave me all 11 for $5, so a freebie as well, and you know how I love something for free.
So has your thrifting fairy godmother been with you lately?
Thanks for reading,
Mel xo
Wow! You totally scored and I'm jealous! Those chairs are the bomb and so is that lamp shade! Infected snot color....lmao! I need them for my family room. Now I'm curious what you will do with those cane plate chargers???
ReplyDeleteJealous of your OP shop finds and the fact that you got your hair cut. I was thinking yesterday that I needed to cut mine but it'll be up in a clip within 5 minutes of it been cut. Can't wait to see what you're doing with your finds
ReplyDeleteThose are some great finds. The infected snot comment made me chuckle, and maybe throw up a little. ;) I want to see the new haircut- pweeeease?
ReplyDeleteI've gotta go let out a wail to the thrifting fairy Godmother, I've not seen much lately and it worked for you.
ReplyDeleteMy Thrifting Fairy Godmother abandoned me and headed to Australia to help you out I guess, cuz you scored big time. I am going to the paint store to see what infected snot really looks like. Could you please send the Thrifting Fairy Godmother back to Canada now that you are done with her? I really need her. Looking forward to all of your projects coming up. Maybe we will get a glimpse of the new Mel in a reflection shot???
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing finds!! You are one lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteI need a Fairy Thriftmother! Granted, I did get my dining set for a steal, but I'm ready for garage sales. Anything to drive Phil crazy.... :P

What a haul, Mel! You really did hit the mother lode! Don't think I've ever had a fairy godmother . . . or maybe I have and just didn't realize it now that I think about it. I need to go out and see what I can find. On the other hand, I'm not suppose to bring anything else into this house until I get rid of something. It's a trade off. But I do have hiding places like you!
ReplyDeleteLove the chairs Mel! I can't wait to see what you do with the chargers. So glad you're back Mel! Do you like your hair shorter? Funny, I'm growing mine.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, Mel, from the land of thrifting fairy godmothers, beauty shops and R&R. Way to score on the thrift store finds, I think I'm going to try some hoots and hollers myself next time out on the op. I must say all your finds are awesome and those chairs really do look comfy. I can't wait to see what you do with them!
ReplyDeleteSome days you just get on a roll with thrifting. I may come home with nothing or I may have trouble jamming it all in the car! How can you lose at those prices?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great haul Mel! Love those lamps, and I'm sure the chairs will be awesome when you're done with them. At $2 a piece you can't go wrong. We all need a break from blogland every once in a while. Glad you're back!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so my Aussie twin lol! I was just thinking I need a haircut cos all I ever do is wear it in a bun - it is so long, I just can't do anything with it...and dressing gown over painting clothes - hello, me all over :)
ReplyDeleteI love those chairs, I have real thing for upholstery tacks (but infected snot colour, not so much hee hee)
Glad you had a good break! Xx
My MIL has those basket platters for paper plates. I like them. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL at the color description of the chair, and ewww for it, but a big hurrah for $2 comfy chairs!
Oh...I love seeing what you've been spending your money on lately. I can't wait to see what you do with all your fabulous finds. I also want to see the perfect hair...come on, drink a glass of wine and take a picture.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to op shop because all I find is junk. Maybe that's because I live in Utah and too many people op shop and get all the good crap. CRAP! I so wish you had given us a photo of your gorgeousness. Dressing gown OVER paint clothes. woo weee. You are making style waves my dear. I do love your finds.
