I Spy With My Little Eye....A Quilt

You know those projects that just never seems to get finished? Well this was mine and I finally finished it.

I had been obsessed with Ispy quilts since I first saw them over at A Girl and a Glue Gun and then she mentioned she was selling them in her etsy store (December 2011). Kim was actually really great to buy from, she was concerned about the postage charges to Australia and I had to say that it was still cheaper than here and I was happy to pay. Also the shipping worked out cheaper than she had thought and she refunded me the difference.

When I received the squares, I left a note on her Facebook page saying that I'd probably have it done by July. So I took a little longer, in my defensive I was still working full time oh and had a newborn plus four other kids (Have I convinced you yet that it wasn't all laziness?).

Anyways I have worked on it in spurts and this weekend I finally sewed in all the threads and I love it. Technically it's for Madeleine and I will make Max one down the track, however the older kids have been "playing" with Madeleine, even when she's not there!

DIY Delight or Disaster? Delight! First "proper" quilt with real batting and I even used the walking foot, it made me feel all professional and stuff. Shhh but my Mum helped (by help I mean I watched as she did it)  baste and pinned the layers together. Done and dusted!

Oh and thanks to Jack for holding the quilt till his arms hurt while I took pictures, he was officially my favorite  child that day.

Thanks for reading,

Mel xo

  1. Mel, that is one awesome quilt! What a feeling of accomplishment you must have! And you used a walking foot? Mine is still in the box it came in...it scares me!

  2. Mel, it looks wonderful! I admire you for finishing it, no matter how long it took. I started a quilt for my daughter, planned on it being a queen size for her bed, but as I worked on squares, I changed my mind and it ended up being a throw for the sofa. Oh, and it still took me months to piece together and I decided to pay someone to quilt it just so it would be finished sometime this century. I don't do well on big projects.

  5. Beautiful! I've thought about starting to quilt but I need to replace my sewing machine first...and remember how to use it since I haven't touched one in about 20 years~

  7. There is a child behind that quilt? How funny. I am really impressed. Your sewing skills are wowing me lately. This is a beautiful quilt, you obviously inherited some of your mom's skills. Beautiful job.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, between housework and 5 kids, this is the only thing I get out of bed for ;)
