Monsters, Aliens and Yarn Art

Morning All.

It's about that time...a DISASTER!

So on my many hours spent pinteresting I kept coming across all these lovely decorative yarn art projects and I really wanted to incorporate some into my craft room decor.

So I grabbed some yarn from the stash a polystyrene ball and some knitting needles.

Loved the idea of the needles in the ball of yarn

Hot glued and wrapped the yarn around the ball

.
I was so thrilled with this simple project but wanted to bling it up a bit and add some detail to the needles....and I thought ooh pretty

Then Jules came home and I saw it, he says "ooh something for the kids room?" I said "what do you mean?", he says "isn't it one of the little monsters from Sesame Street." Highly offended I replied "No, it's yarn art, it's a ball of wool with knitting needles in it."

At this point Samuel the eldest child comes in and says "Cool an Alien!"

DIY Delight or Disaster? Well simply put, now all I see is this little monster/alien thing staring at me and it's creeping me out...back to the drawing board!

So what do you think, art or do you see a funny looking monster...don't worry I think it's hilarious now I certainly won't be offended! Where did I go so wrong??

Thanks for reading,

Mel xo

  2. I think it kind of looks like lollipops. But the colours are great and art is always up for interpretation. If you love it, hang it up. Think about what people pay for Jackson Pollocks! :)

  3. LOL I saw an alien too. Haha I think the colour of the needles is hard to see on the background, at least in the pictures. Hmm and also how big the yarn is compared to the flowers? Maybe change the shape of the flowers so they dont look like eyes... ? I think I am just talking jibberish now I really have no idea :)

  4. Mel! How I have missed you (I'm spending a night in civilization and then back to no internet tomorrow morning). This is hilarious. I love that your husband thought it was a sesame street character. It does have a bit of an alien look to it. I love it!

Anyway, you always start my day off with a smile!

  13. Hi Mel! I read along with interest, thinking what a great idea, isn't Mel clever etc etc - couldn't see your hubby's idea at all but then came the alien comment and 'out of the mouths of babes' - this alien emerged and now it keeps looking at me too! :)

  14. I've had those moments, though it's usually with something I'm wearing. "You look kinda like the ice cream man." What the heck does that mean, anyway?! :D I like your cute little alien, though I suppose he isn't quite what you were going for. How about just removing his eyes and putting some word(s) above the yarn art?

  18. Yep, I thought it was eyes sticking out of a black body. I say get rid of the eyes and paint the knitting needles red. If you want bling, add red glitter to the sticks.

  19. Well of course I think they're cute. I have their relatives at my house.

  20. Wellllll - it's a little unusual as a decorative object. But, it is a very cute alien!

  21. So cute! I can see the alien hanging out in your craft room, especially with those polka dots!!

  22. Well they were wrong about what it was but they seemed to really like it otherwise :) It's a great idea though. Love that it incorporates your knitting awesomeness into your craft room. You could always do a couple more in different colors and have a knitting ball monster/alien family as part of your decor :)
