Another post about my favorite online craft store wholeport.com
When I saw this I just thought it was so pretty, I had to have it and even though I don't sew clothes (or not very well!) I began to
Elizabeth thought it would make a good beard, like that guy from Futurama, anyone know who she meant?
Anyways, after some consideration it began to scream necklace and so that's what I did.
Supplies:
- Lace Collar available here from Wholeport
- Artificial Flower
- Beads
- Chain
- Jump Rings
- Those ribbon end clamp thingys (pure tech speak here)
- Hot glue and the gun
- Felt
- Cabochon (optional)
First up I played around with the beads and flowers trying to find a pattern I liked, like so
and then hot glued the felt to the back of the collar.
Then I decided that the rhinestone was a little gaudy for my liking, so I pulled it off and added a cabochon (which I did buy from wholeport but it was over a year a go so I'm not sure if they still have them) I looked but couldn't see them.
Hot glued the beads into the middle of the rosettes.
Then I grabbed some extra felt and clamped the connector things on and hot glued them to the back
Added a jump ring to both sides and connected the chain and she was done!
I love the necklace and if your haven't checked out Wholeport do it, I promise you will not find better prices here in Australia and they are the cheapest I've found online. They even have a limited amount of freebies you can sign up for every Sunday. FUN!

This is very cute and so in vogue! Collars seem to be the rage now and to make them into a necklace is an added plus! How clever! I had never heard of a cabochon until now. I had to look it up. Sounds so chic! And it is!
ReplyDeleteGood job Mel! That is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOh...I like that. I like that very much. I agree, nixing the rhinestone was probably for the best. I think you should have modeled it for us, though :)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! The swirly beads are my favorite! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I love all these collars I see online but don't know what I would do them, a necklace is a fantastic idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking your pretty necklace to Raising Imperfection!
DeleteGreat job. Looks bright and happy.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Mel ! I also tend to buy things, which might get stashed for months and only then an idea will enter my brain ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow do you think these things up? I'd still be staring at them. It seems I don't have a creative bone in my body when it comes to fashion. I probably would have turned it into a pillow! lol
ReplyDeleteOoh Mel I really love it - the aqua and black work really well together! Thanks for the inspiration, now with the 3 eldest in school / playgroup and the baby sleeping, do I do the housework or attempt some crafting? Hmmm, decisions decisions;)
ReplyDeleteE xx
Incredibly cute!! Nicely done ;)

The cabochon is perfect, and I like it better than the rhinestone too! Now I have to go look up 'cabochon,' lol, I know what it is from your context, but am too curious not to look. :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, Mel! Great way to avoid a sewing project! :)
ReplyDeleteMel this is really pretty! Love the black and aqua colors together...so striking! Nice job girl!
ReplyDeleteLove the colours Mel! I think the black whatever it's called was definitely the right choice rather than the rhinestone. It really seems to make the flower pop. Just beautiful!
