Potty Reward Jar - For Boys

Hey Guys,

My goodness it has been busy, busy busy, around here. We have entered what I like to refer to as birthday season where 3/4 of the family have birthdays and we seem to do nothing but eat cake.

I am officially another year older and I keep waiting for that promised wisdom but some how I still do some pretty dumb things. Like decide to toilet train Max as we come into Winter!

If you aren't aware of the torture that is potty training basically it's you madly repeating the phrase, "do you need to go? Are you sure you don't need to go?" Then 5 minutes later there is an "accident" and you spend a few weeks with double the washing and the house stinks, fun times!

So I thought I would make a quick simple reward jar. It's too easy here's how:

An Empty Jar - any one destined for the recycling bin will do
Vinyl - Or stickers if you don't have a cutter.

Decide on a design, and cut it out. I wanted mine to be as subtle as a sledge hammer, otherwise it's just a lolly jar.

Max took one look at it and says, oh he's fishing....maybe it wasn't quite as subtle as I thought.

DIY Delight or Disaster? Do you know I never did this with my older three, they just went when they were ready and it was so easy. Madeleine and Max encourage each other...to not go. I guess they don't want their bare bums out in the fresh cold air. Mind you Max walks around almost naked most days, in spite of how I dress him. This little lolly trick has worked though and we are now competing to see who can get the most lollies. Delight, well as much as potty training can be delightful!

Thanks for reading,

Mel xo

  1. Great idea, Mel ! Lol.. if I'm one of the older kids, I'd want a candy too, each time I'd gone to the "potty" seeing as they never had it ;-) We only just had Dimitri potty trained, when we had Cheri {he was 22 months then} and he decided to give us a 180 - yep, back on the nappies !

  3. Cute! Love the little fisherman- ha! I did the same thing with our son- he got one m&m for potty, two for poop, and three for both. Whatever it takes.

  6. We have a birthday season too. My family all has birthday between Oct-Dec. Great idea on the potty jar. My daughter would do just about anything for a jelly bean!

  7. I think this is a delight. I'm starting toilet training in summer because I've got to get my little man to understand the difference between the two actions. I might get a potty training jar mine will have to be minus the great details. Good luck Max

  8. I never did this for my son, but I wish I would have because it looks like it works wonders. Once I saw the "fisherman" I busted out. So cut and funny, Mel. I hope it's working. Where did you get the image, by the way?

  9. What a great idea. Candy certainly is a good motivator. Glad it's proving to provide an incentive to go.

  10. I hated potty training! My system was to get rid of the diapers and pretend they were trained until they went to school and a teacher did it for me. Just kidding. Actually, I'm not really kidding. LOL

  11. Love it! My girls would have giggled so hard at the sight of that jar. (But it's effective, too - you pee, you get a treat!)

  12. What a great idea! I've got to remember to do this once the boys get to that point. I have a feeling I'm going to need candy. Any other tips are greatly appreciated for how to deal with boys. Wynn was so easy.
