Welcome to Day 5 of
If there is one thing that might be considered weird hoarding, it's my bedding packaging obsession. I just find those strong plastic bags are fab for holding bits and bobs and I ALWAYS keep them.
As you know I'm doing my craft room at the moment and wanted to organize the trim and ribbons a little better than dumping them in a bag in a drawer.
So I grabbed:
Fabric
Empty Packets
Batting and sewing supplies
I sewed the fabric onto the batting like so
Then I sewed down the two sides of the bag. I decided not to sew the bottom just to give it a bit of movement when they're full. By the way I didn't use anything special to sew vinyl, I have read that you have to have different needles and put tape on the feet, but it worked without and this vinyl was pretty sturdy, I suggest you check your manual if you're not sure. My machine is a 20 year old Janome.
Made sure my second line measured up, matching the top.
Added labels and filled her up.
DIY Delight or Disaster? I'm super happy with this, it cost me nothing to make and it's really handy. I think I am going to do one for my kitchen down the track. Delight!
Thanks for reading,

What a great recycle project! I've collected a lot of those bags and have never known what to do with them except to throw them a drawer to keep for later. But later never came until now. Such a fantastic idea to hold small items that often get buried and overlooked.
ReplyDeleteThat's really very creative of you, Mel! I keep all those bags, but never use them :/ Maybe now, as I think I will finally have a room to serve only as a separate craft room !!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great idea! I have saved all those plastic thingies, too...I may try this, if my craft room ever gets its act together.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun project. I love the pillow case fabric. I am sure this helps to keep you more organized too. And, I love that you have your ribbons wrapped around clothes pins.
ReplyDeleteYay for trash chic week - pillowcase packaging, who would've thought they could be so useful! Really loving this series, very inspiring!

ReplyDeleteSo awesome!! This is such a terrific idea Mel. I wish I had seen it sooner. They'd be perfect to go on the back of our van seats for a road trip we are leaving fir tomorrow. Definitely going to do these for the next trip though! Really great job!
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect!! i bet you could even hang it on the back of your door and it would be extra out of the way.
ReplyDeleteThis is nice and a pillow case is the perfect size for littles like ribbons!
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm beginning to think you could be my daughter- I hoard those bedding bags, too. And my daughter's name is Melissa. I love what you did with them, you clever thing.
ReplyDeleteAnother great idea Mel! Love, love, love the red polka dots. This is just brilliant! Great way to get organized!
ReplyDeleteThis is just too clever! Oh to spend the day in the mind of Mel! Way to recycle girl!!
ReplyDeleteSuper clever! I'm half way organized but the other half is a disaster! I think it's worse than being totally unorganized. I need some new solutions for the disaster half. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDELIGHT! This is such a great idea, Mel! So clever! Love the red polka dots!
