It was my Dad's birthday on the weekend and I wanted to write a post about what an awesome, loving, caring Dad he is with lots of heartfelt emotion, but I can't.
I could've written about how he is the best Granddad ever but I really can't write that either.
You see the reason I can't write that kind of post is, that while the above statements are true, I feel that I must out him for the super nerd/geek that he is! A Star Wars freak and worse still, from the minute my boys could talk he has slowly but surely brainwashed them into as well.
So earlier this year when he was so excited to have bought this T-shirt, in fact so excited in his geekiness that he told me about it FOUR times, before I saw him wearing it.
I was left with no other choice than to make him this Star Wars Cookie Jar using nothing more than my cutter, some vinyl, and a cookie jar.
DIY Delight or Disaster? Dad loved it, he burst out laughing as soon as he opened it and since I usually find him the hardest person to buy gifts for, I was thrilled to have given him something that he got a kick out of. Also he's keeping it in his office, that's like the fridge for adult arts and crafts (yeah I rocked it) so delight!
Happy 60th Birthday Dad, you're the best, even if you did turn my boys into Star Wars fans.
Thanks for reading,
Mel xo
Oh I know someone else who would love that. What a lucky Dad you have to have such a wonderful daughter!

Oh yeah! You totally rocked it!! And now...I'm freaking out that your dad is only 6 years older than me! Arghhhhh!
ReplyDeleteLoved reading this post, Mel... not because I'm a Star Wars fan. I'm not, but two of the males in the family are. How wonderful that your boys share something special with their Grandfather!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your dad! That is the perfect gift, Mel- you know that you now have to live up to its awesomeness next year, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteAwesome gift Mel. And a big Happy Birthday to your Dad!!! Don't you just love the feeling you get when you know you have the perfect present for someone; especially your parent!! I am a bit of a Sci Fi nerd too and wonder why all people aren't?
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, def. delight, and high five for the present score. :) Happy Birthday to your dad. :)
ReplyDeleteAwe! What a great gift for your Start Wars loving Dad. How clever to make the cookie jar from the shirt. I bet the boys loved it too :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so fabulous Mel! The best gifts are personalized ones like this. Happy Birthday to your dad!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your Dad, Mel ! He sounds like a real jolly gentleman who does not plan on aging with his birthdays, and this is a perfect gift for a Star Wars fan :-)
ReplyDeleteThis post was so fun to read and so fun to look through. The pictures look great!!! Sadly I've never seen Star Wars but I love this cookie jar. It turned out perfect!!! Happy birthday to your dad!!!

ReplyDeleteMel, I am going to try and ignore the fact that Amy from WWH just said she's never seen Star Wars....nope can't ignore it. I love that you turned his favorite shirt into a completely awesome present. Go you!
ReplyDeleteDon't you LOVE when you have a present that you know is just perfect? Way to think outside the box! :)
ReplyDeleteI have an 8 year old who would love this cookie jar. Great job Mel.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your dad, and may the force be with him. Of all gifts, handmade are the best, he probably won't let anyone get near this one. Super cool, Mel!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome Mel, you are such a fun daughter! Love how your boys and dad share the 'geekiness' :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day hun, Estelle xx
Such an awesome post hun - love the cookie jar and your dad's reaction. Happy Birthday Mel's Dad xxxx
ReplyDeleteWoohoo!!!!!! I'm a complete SW freak too. Hubby bought me 3 sets of SW cookie cut-outs (like I'm ever going to have an opportunity to use them properly). I've seen the original trilogy no fewer than 452 times. Okay, I made that number up, but it's probably actually pretty close. LOVE THIS!!!!

This is brilliant, I'm afraid I am the person in our house responsible for getting the kids into Star Wars, but I'm not sorry, not even one little bit!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see a project like this I'm thinking I've got to get myself a cutter of some sort!
