Chair Makeover

Well it's a mini makeover! I wanted to paint it but it belongs to a set and at some point I would really like to have it as part of my dining room. We removed it and started using our old set because the pieces all have big metal hooks and they weren't really toddler friendly. So I just changed the manky seat which will need to be redone on all of them down the track. It is from the same set as my Houndstooth Table.

Any it looked like this.

So I removed the seat. Mind the ugly winter feet

Then couldn't decide what to do with it so I put it out on facebook and was really keen on the idea of patchwork but since I had already removed the pad I had nothing to sew on and I just wanted it done in a day. I ended up choosing the polka dot.

Stapled it on and like magic it went from that to this. BTW getting the chair back on....well that's annoying to say the least, ugg there were tears and tantrums and a screwdriver may have been flung!

But she's done!

DIY Delight or Disaster? Well it's not too bad for a first attempt at a chair makeover, but she wont be winning any beauty pageants.  It looks cleaner and it is closer to the theme than the old cover but I think I'm on the fence with this one.

What do you think?

  2. I like the polka dots, and think it'll look great in your craft room! Delight for me. Ryan and I...I'll say "I" generously, re-covered our dining room chairs many a time. that's what you get for buying upholstered chairs before you have kids. After the hot chocolate and soup and all manner of food and drink had been spilled...time to recover again...and again...and again. We finally wised up and bought all wood chairs. Maybe someday, like you, I'll get nice cushy chairs again.

  4. I saw the very first picture and I thought you were going to tell us that was the "before" shot and I was going to have to be all like, "what the heck was wrong with it?!?" THEN I saw the actual "before," and I was like, "Oh, whew...VERRRY cool...thank goodness, cuz that chair has some awesome going on now..." Most excellent Delight.

  5. Love it Mel! Polka dots are so much better, and well done for not throwing the chair along with the screwdriver lol! I can't wait to be able to have more grown up furniture one day :)

  7. Love the polka dots. I'm not sure if the back of the chair goes with the dots but if you tried to make a slip cover it may look weird.

  8. I pretty much love anything with polka dots! I love how the circles on the back of the chair match the dots. I don't think you can ever go wrong with black and white. Not sure why you're on the fence with this project. It's a great transformation Mel!

  9. The chair is totally pageant-worthy. Love me some polka dots. I think I have the same "before" fabric on my dining chairs- I want to repaint and recover, but can't make up my mind on what fabric to use. I bought something cheerful and summery, but then I wonder if I'll get tired of it quickly. Maybe I need something more geometric rather than patterned.
