The Lounge - Obviously it's a before shot.

Morning All,

So what I have discovered over the past year and a half that it is almost impossible to finish a room and start on the next. The Entry is nearly done but I am looking for the perfect coat rack idea and lighting so while I search around for what I need to finish it off . However we did have ideas for the lounge room.

So on the spur of the moment last Saturday we decided to get started on some ideas we had since Julian was measuring up, there was no time to tidy up, welcome to Saturday mornings in the mansion (pre clean up) I'm sure those scraper site will just be dying to steal these photos....or not on the plus side when you're having a my house is terrible come back and make yourself feel better.

It's actually a very large long room. Above it the front of the room. A lot of the space has been unused because of the arches.

That's the back of the room where Julian has his study. I told you it was pre clean up.

I know people love little nooks, but this one bugs me.

There isn't actually that much crap in there usually but I was cleaning out another room and I dumped everything there.

I had to snap these so quickly because Jule's had literally just been checking where the wall studs are and went off to the hardware store, as you can see, Madeleine thought she needed to double check the studs.

This is the arch that leads into to the entry just to give you an idea of how it is situated. So what's about to happen, big surprise but I can give a spoiler and say that awful dingy beige is gone! We have HUGE plans for this space.

Also I am kind of glad the photos are messy, it will make whatever we do look better (hehe) Plus I am praying that will be the last of the blue carpet in the living area, we were given some free carpet however it didn't fit so we have had a change of plans which we should complete over the Easter break.

So what would you do with that huge space, any suggestions? What about the nook, love them or hate them? I actually like some nooks but not this one we have another one in the kids area that is actually fantastic. With this nook I think they dudded us on kitchen space by adding it, however to remove it will add more problems so it has to stay.

Thanks for reading,

Mel xo

  1. I'm thinking your idea of a mess and my reality of a mess are two entirely different things Mel!! LOL! I kind of like that nook and I've always loved the arches, but now I can see how they can pose a problem because everything is open. Love that Madeleine is double checking Jules work...so cute! Looking forward to seeing what's happening next at the mansion!

  2. I love your open bright space! . Looks like you will get the job done quickly with Madeleine helping. Those are the most awesome arched doorways I have ever seen. I can hardly wait to see what you do!

  3. How exciting! I can't wait to see what you come up with. I have no idea what to do with that nook area. Maybe another bookshelf? A small library nook :) Your house has a lot of character with those arched doors... so pretty! And by the way, my house looks lived - in too. LOVE that you show the real deal.

  5. What a great space! I cannot wait to see what you pick for a paint color. It's going to look wonderful. I love the arched doorways!

  6. That's a great space Mel, and I agree with Danni because I don't really see a lot of mess. I would probably do built in bookshelves in that nook just because I love them and I can always use more book storage. I've always loved all the arches because for me it's the unusual things like them that give a home its character I'm looking forward to seeing how you redo the space, especially the paint colour you choose for the walls.

  7. Can't wait to see what you've come up with but like Bliss said it's got to be for all of the family . . . something like a theatre room for movie watching. And since Julian is excited about it too, it has to be something he'll enjoy. Just a thought! The arches give the room character and I'd like to know how Danni missed the "pass through" arches in Julian's study?

  8. I have always loved arched doorways- they add so much character. Can't wait to see what you guys are up to in this space. Would adding a closet in the nook close up the space too much? I'm always looking for extra storage.

  9. That nook is perfect for corner built ins. There may be some Ikea cabinets that can be adapted. If you go all the way to the ceiling, you have room to store all the kid stuff. Some of the shelving can be open for decorative pieces. Can't say I'm sorry to see that carpet go. lol Do you use that roll top desk? If not, you could remove it and put a kids size table and chairs in that space so they have an office just like Daddy.

  10. ohhhh, I am so excited to see what's happening!! I agree with Maureen, maybe you could put wrap around shelves or cabinets and have it just for storage and playing.

  11. You and Jules are officially home improvement junkies and I love it. I can't wait to see what you do with this large lovely space. So much potential. I think you should do some sort of a corner built in hutch in that nook. I can't wait to see progress pictures!!!

  12. How fun that you're redoing so much. I know you hate your carpet, but I love it so. That blue is pretty to me. :)

Good luck with the changes, I can't wait to see what you decide.

LOL at your daughter double checking her daddy's work. That's very cute. :)

  13. How about a built in bookcase or showcase in the nook {L- shaped} ? I'm glad for your sake that the blue carpet will be gone, however it really is not a bad color! Haha, I would have probably "wanted" to get a white cover for the couch seeing as I love that exact blue and white would look awesome with it, but with my family {inc the dogs!} white is totally impossible anywhere in my house ;-)

  14. Hey you should see our house on the weekend! Love the space you have, maybe you could create a little quiet corner in your nook with a big comfy chair, books etc. Really looking forward to the big reveal :)

  16. If that's a mess, than my name is Nancy! It sounds like you and Jules are getting quite inspired to create something exciting out of all the "can'ts" that were on the original plan. You have a very nice space to work with. I'm looking forward to seeing what you all do ;)
